Hardware

This website runs on an old laptop running debian GNU/linux.

Running a simple website doesn't require much processing power at all and you could probably run one on an old phone if you set it up right.

The best way to run a website is on paid hosting as this makes setting up DNS easier and you don't have to worry about things like electricity costs.

About this website

I held off on making a personal website until I had some genuine use for it as I was first planning to use paid hosting which would've been a constant hole in my pocket without much purpose. I ended up finally making it when I wanted to try making a file server website to share photos with friends without having to use a cloud storage option which would scan all my photos to improve the owning company's facial recognition products. I installed debian GNU/linux on an old laptop(~2005 I think) and then installed Nginx and mostly followed the guides from the excellent Landchad.net as well as trying my best to get file uploading working without javascript.

This website is made without using javascript (and thus no cookies) for the most part. The two parts that use it are the zoneminder and gitea subsites.
